vintage walk

after a pretty good estate sale score in the morning and an early afternoon movie (i saw the artist - it was great and really inventive! watch the trailer here), i decided to take lola on a vintage walk.

a vintage walk is what my friend calls a walk around an old neighborhood. it was the perfect weather for a long stroll with my iPod, camera, and favorite pug.

i love my neighborhood! there are so many interesting things to see on every street. so many amazing houses and buildings, especially. i love, love, love the pink and mint green cottage with the white picket fence (upper left) and the church (upper right) was built in 1856 - it's incredible! the victorian house (bottom left) is really stunning and it's purple (in various shades) from top to bottom.

but my favorite thing to look at every time i pass it? this amazing 1960s cadillac ambulance. swoon.

i always get a bit camera shy around this beauty - i really want to get interesting angle shots of all the little details, but i don't want to invade any personal property. i am determined to knock on the owners' door one day and ask for the ambulance's history and permission to shoot away.

i'm off to spend the night catching up on project runway all-stars (it's too much awesome with both austin scarlett and mondo) and downton abbey. yes, this is my saturday night and it's going to be great!

so long, 2011

i moved from a tiny, cramped apartment to a perfect (for me) little house that i love.

i listened to so much good music with really awesome people. there really needs to be more squares for this.

i had the best thrift store and estate sale adventures.

i had the best time laughing with my family and friends.

i tried more things. making is my favorite.

i snuggled with this cutie.

and i felt thankful for my amazing family.

i hope you had a spectacular 2011 - see you next year!

awesome points

i'm awarding a million awesome points to my lola because:

she's finally (kind of) learning to sit when she sees other dogs, as opposed to rushing them with her pip-squeak snarl.

she's gobbling up the new addition of mixed vegetables to her dry food.

she still loves me even when i have to work a lot and leave her at home at night to go to concerts.

she's fiercely dedicated to keeping my feet warm when i'm sick (food poisoning is not fun).

she's at the other end of a heartworm treatment. i take her back to get the final test next week.

she lets me take lots and lots of pictures of her. many times, she's dressed up (sometimes by my nieces, most of the time by me).

she's puts her face between her paws when she's sleepy (gah, this kills me!).

and, even though she is quite solemn and slightly repressed (according to my brother-in-law), she has the best puppy dog smile i've ever seen.

she's awfully sweet, lola is.

who knows what lola got up to in my sister's backyard the other day. i came to the back door and she was absolutely covered in grass!

here's hoping your day starts with fun roll in the... er, nevermind. i'm off to work to meet with the city attorney to have my release forms for an oral history project approved - exciting library stuff, i know.

holy cold...

no wonder my sinuses are going crazy! it's currently around 18 degrees and tomorrow it will be 33 degrees. and in one week? the 70s. absolutely nuts, i tell you! absolutely texas, i tell you.

but in the meantime, look how cute my puppoo is (that's dog in megan-speak)!

lola has been extra snuggly of late, which is perfectly okay with me.

she is amusingly terrified of any liquid-state objects falling on her, including rain and snow.

and she can't get inside soon enough after her short visits outside. she practically drags me as she makes a dash back to the apartment.
